Day 10

Colombo City Tour / Airport or Hotel Drop Off

After breakfast, you’ll travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital city, which has a fascinating history dating back to the fifth century. This was an important port city in the East-West commerce even in ancient times. It is now a vibrant contemporary town with a distinct feel. The vibrant streets, restaurants, and sophisticated retail complexes draw both locals and tourists.

When you arrive in Colombo, you will have the chance to tour all of the city’s highlights, such as the Red Mosque, Gangarama Temple, Independent Square, and so on. After that, you might like to stop by a famous and globally recognized restaurant in Colombo to round out your vacation with an amazing lunch. Following that, either travel to the airport in time for your return flight or we will drop you off at your accommodation in Colombo or Negombo.

Negombo

Negombo, sometimes known as Sri Lanka’s “Little Rome,” is a charming beach town located near the Bandaranaike International Airport. Negombo, home to some of Sri Lanka’s oldest churches, excellent seafood, and pristine beaches, is a great place to relax before or after visiting the rest of the nation. With a range of beach activities such as kite surfing and a vibrant nightlife, there is always something to do in Negombo.

Wilpattu

Wilpattu National Park has a long coastline and is located in the island’s dry zone to the north west. It is approximately 180 kilometers north of Colombo. Wilpattu is reported to have the most leopards in the world. The park is home to elephants, spotted deer, wild boars, and mongooses. The Park is also home to a variety of owls, gulls, and eagles, as well as the Sri Lankan jungle fowl.

The park is home to mugger crocodiles, common cobras, Indian pythons, and soft-shelled turtles. During the northeast monsoon rains from December to February, as well as the ensuing inter-monsoonal rains, the Park’s 60 lakes and tanks attract animals, and flora and wildlife thrive in the lush climate. Only roughly one-fourth of the Park is accessible to the public; the rest is highly wooded.

Trincomalee

Trincomalee, the country’s port harbor, is located to the northeast of Sri Lanka. Aside from its business status as a key maritime position, the seaside city is one of the country’s most popular tourist sites for both visitors and residents. The city has a lot to offer whether you’re visiting with children, loved ones, and friends, or just by yourself. Elements of spiritual encounters, natural marvels, and relaxation come together to provide guests with the finest voyage they’ve ever taken.

Sigiriya

Sigiriya, often known as “The Lion Rock” due to its original name “Sinhagiri,” is a large rock formation in Dambulla that reaches around 200 meters tall. It served as a royal fortress for 18 years until being strengthened by King Kasyapa. Sigiriya’s architectural and irrigational systems, such as the Water Gardens, continue to perplex engineers. On the way up the steep metal steps with railings, a wall with paintings of bare-breasted females is passed. Art experts see them as one-of-a-kind. The pinnacle of the rock is a hectare in area, and the palace’s outer wall was erected on the brink of the cliff, with gardens and ponds to soften the harsh environment. Since it was erected over 1,500 years ago, it has been dubbed the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by aficionados and is a World Heritage Site.

Nuwara Eliya

The scenic environment of Nuwara Eliya is known as “Little England” because of the likeness of its homesteads to English bungalows and its mild temperature at an elevation of over 1,800m above sea level (there are even log fires in some hotels).

Piduruthalagala, Sri Lanka’s tallest peak, towers over Nuwara Eliya. During the local holiday season months of April and August, it was a getaway from the coastal heat for British colonists in colonial days, and even now, rituals such as horse racing, boating on the lake, magnificent flower garden contests, and golf tournaments are held.

The area grows the majority of Sri Lanka’s fresh flowers, fruits, and vegetables, and it also has dairy and strawberry farms. A visit to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens near town is a must, as is a trip through Horton Plains.

Ella

Ella is a tiny hill country community with independent guesthouses, surrounded by mountains, farms, and waterfalls, with breathtaking views and a dramatic mythical past. In the classic Indian epic Ramanaya, written more than 1,000 years before Christ, it is said that Ravana, ruler of Lanka, utilized Sita Cave, 2 kilometers from Ella, to conceal Sita, Rama’s lovely bride. This draws numerous tourists from India who are interested in the Ramanaya narrative. The vista via Ella Gap and Ravana Falls is equally appealing.

Ella is also a popular stop on the backpackers’ path from west to east Sri Lanka, and several tiny cafés and low-cost guesthouses have sprung up along the major road through the hamlet to accommodate them. The charming village, located 204 kilometers from Colombo, is best visited by rail.

Udawalawe

The 30,000-hectare Udawalawe National Park is located on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, about a five-hour drive from Colombo. The Park, which is available to tourists escorted by a tracker, was established as a refuge for wild creatures displaced during the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir. Its vegetation is impacted by the limits of its wet and dry zones, as well as a range of plains that emphasize its terrain. Rain falls from October to January and from March to May.

Elephants, water buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, fishing cats, and jungle cats may all be found in the park. The park is home to endemic birds such as the Ceylon Junglefowl, Ceylon Spurfowl, and Ceylon Grey Hornbill, as well as other bird species such as the Spot-billed Pelican, Little Cormorant, Grey Heron, and Indian Pond Heron.

Colombo

Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial center, is around 30 minutes away from the International Airport through the new Expressway. Its outskirts are hectic, congested with traffic, and densely packed with office and residential buildings, but the city center has been revitalized with bright new high-rise hotels and office buildings, restored and re-painted Edwardian houses, and vast tree-lined boulevards.

Because of its parks and playing fields, inspired architecture and spaciousness, air-conditioned retail malls, high-end restaurants, and hotels to suit all budgets, Colombo appears poised to reclaim its title as Asia’s Garden City. There is no subway system, and buses are generally crowded with commuters, so taking one of the ubiquitous, buzzing three-wheeler taxis known as ‘tuk tuks’ is a fantastic way to see the city.
